Per Malacañang Proclamation No. 247 dated September 2, 2002, the month of September of every year is declared as Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) to provide a means for promoting and drawing nationwide awareness on the importance of policy reasearch in national development.
On its sixth year, the Steering Committee for the celebration of the DPRM chose the theme "Managing the Development Impact of International Magration" to highlight the significant role that international migration has played in the lives of many of our countrymen. It likewise underscores the need to link the study of international migration to the country's development process and integrate it into the overall development program of the government.
In this regard, the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), as the agency designated to lead and coordinate the activities for the annual observance of the DPRM, is taking the lead in organizing activities for the annual observance of the DPRM.
On its part the PIDS will be organizing a one day conference on September 23, 2008 to highlight current research results and policy proposals that are designed to help make international migration serve development objectives better.
